In preparation for the upcoming race this weekend, a group of us drove just across the boarder to Holland to ride some of the cobbled sections that will be on the course on Friday. It was my first real experience riding a legit cobbled road. Being a bigger guy I didn't find them to rattle me too bad, but I am sure they can get much worse.
The course on the first day is a sort of dumbbell shape. The first section is a loop starting in a small town which it eventually crosses back through, but supposedly the first 8k will determine the leaders for most of the race. This means complete cause. The other end of the dumbbell is the finishing circuit that has one fairly long sector of cobbles a couple of K before the finish. All of the roads are very narrow and have a ton of corners. The race will surely be an eye opening experience.
